Day 134 - foo!

Sad news today, but I'm not actually that sad about it.  Weighed in this morning and am +3.5 lbs.  Now, you might think, "oh no!" and I did have a few choice words to say, BUT....I couldn't help but wonder if....it's because I'm 'working out'.  Yes, for those inquiring minds that would like to know...I have not broken my attendance streak and have been to Curves every day they've been open (I get Sundays off, thank you Jesus (LOL!)).  So I started Curves on Apr. 15 and have been every single day so today was workout day (WD) 16.  I have more to say about Curves, but in a moment.  My theory about why the gain this week is the 'muscle weighs more than fat' thing.  Now, this of course is like the old "which weighs more a pound of feathers or a pound of lead".  I know we can all agree that like the lead and feathers a pound of fat and pound of muscle are the same weight, BUT the fat takes up more space than the muscle.  My question is, and I KNOW I know the answer but I cannot quite pull it all together in my head so if I am correct about my theory here, please chime in and confirm for me.  Is it possible that I gained the weight because I'm converting fat to muscle so I APPEAR different but my weight is the same?  I think the answer is yes, although I'm a professional dieter, I'm just unsure.  I can tell you that I may have gained, but I FEEL thinner and I feel I LOOK thinner too!

My Curves revelations
Getting there has not been difficult.  It's funny how when you insist that something must happen every day, even when you feel like there's not enough time, you actually find the time; so getting there has been easy.  Doing the workout has been easy.  I am definitely sweaty and breathing heavy at the end and I actually feel like I did something.  I was going to do measurements this week but now I'm going to wait until the end of month one.  I actually find myself almost enjoy being there.  They don't bug me when I'm there, I can just do my thing and leave which I really like.  AND, here's the best part...I've noticed a teeny, tiny (you have to really look) of muscle definition on my left calf!  Yes, it's there!  I was shocked!  And a teeny, tiny bit less flab on my arms.  I also have noticed that my sides are slightly slimmer.  However, I also have to report and this part totally sucks (I've mentioned it before), all of the fat seems to be migrating to my stomach and above (and I don't mean my boobs) I mean making my formerly 'almost triple' roll and hefty double roll.  Yuk.  I really hate that part.  But I'll live with it for the other 'gains' I've made.

I was very good with water this week.  Not stellar with my food but not "bad" either.  I am definitely bored with the MF food but I am working hard every day to remember it's the food that's gotten me this far and now the food and movement will get me through this second phase.

Water today:  on my third  (28 oz) mug

Food today:
shake
bar
chili
bar
chicken sandwich (for dinner)
few french fries
scoop of sugar free choc. ice cream (not a huge scoop, literally one scoop)
I am done eating for the day.  Oh and of course I did my Curves workout this morning.

Don't have a goal for this week other than to try to stay 'on plan' the entire week with no straying.  I don't even care about loss by next Sat.  I want to see how I continue to look.  I will say that ALL of my clothes fit more loosely, some VERY much so.

Oh one last thing.  Zumba is NOT for me.  Tried it once last week.  I LOVED the music but I've never done it and the girl leading it was really not good about checking with us 'new faces' and slowing it down.  It was lightining fast (I thought I had good rhythm.  Apparently I am seriously uncoordinated, white men can't jump? Well this white girl apparently can't dance.  The moves were cool but they were not happening for me.  I only did 15 min. of the 30 min.  I will not be trying Zumba again.  I'd be better off to find the same fast/fun music and just dance to it.  Here's the super amusing thing.  I'm always imagining choreographed dance routines in my head to music and I think they're really good; but to actually do some moves, uh yeah, right, that's not happening for this girl.

Growing up with food

Okay, my friend's comment prompts me to ask this question to you reading this....what where your models for eating growing up?  Did anyone in your family have a weight problem?  How was food dealt with?  What did you learn about interacting with food and why?  What's your theory about why skinny people are skinny and fat people are fat?  This inquiring mind wants to know.  And thanks G for the comment....I know you love to make me think!!!

Day three....

Sooooooooooooooo.....I saw my doc last Tues. and they took my weight.  I started MediFast this past Sat. (so it's been two full days on MF) and I weighed myself this a.m.  SIX LBS. gone in 2 days!  Okay so maybe it's really since last Tues. but considering how I ate between Tues. and Sat. I'm gonna say, I don't think so.
Today I have been INSANELY bitchy;  just nasty, yelling, being a regular c*&% kind of bitchy.  My family have been super decent with me about it though.  Today, day three, is the first day I've felt hungry a lot.  Not miserable, not deprived just hungry almost as soon as I eat.  But I'm writing this after 8:30 pm and I just had a shake (one more meal replacement than I'm allotted for the day) and now, I feel very happy.  :)  Oh and I did eat closer to every 2 hours today.
Dinner tonight was chicken breast and a LOT of asparagus with some spray butter.  Very yummy.
Oh, and woke up with another headache this a.m. but an Excedrin Migraine helped kick it.  I'm told the headache thing is not abnormal but should subside after the first 4 days or so.

Food feedback:
scrambled eggs (surprisingly very good....threw about 1/2 tbsp. of diced onions in them and it was yum)
oatmeal/raisin bar (not bad, I liked it well enough)
chicken/wild rice soup (not as bad today as the first time I had it)
banana creme shake (blech, like the strawberry, really fake flavor)
peanut crunch bar (pretty good, the best of all the bars I think)
Dutch choc. shake (again, icy cold water is the key)
Drank 12-15 glass of water.
Did my Abdoer Twist AGAIN this morning.

Extra food today:  2 pickle spears, 10ish almonds
Overall rating for today: 5/10 (with 10 being fabulous!!!) 5 BECAUSE I was hungry all day AND I was so cranky.

Will probably weigh again on Wed.

Day 2 part 2

My headache FINALLY went away.  Even had a cup of coffee this a.m. thinking it would help.  Nope.  But all better now (it's after 6 p.m. as I write this).  Didn't eat until 10:45 this a.m. for my first meal.  Not recommended but I have eaten all my meal replacements and I'm having another one after dinner (maybe) since I only at 4 yesterday.  Dinner will be pork roast, and broccoli, yum!  Ate more frequently through the afternoon and that helped a lot.  Found myself hungrier today than yesterday.  Also found myself pretty cranky today too.  But I've been drinking plenty of water (had three 24 oz. bottles so far today).
Oooo, oooo, oooo, AND I did my Abdoer Twist today (again) for the second day in a row.  Believe me, THAT is a big deal.

Food feedback:
apple cinammon oatmeal (sucks...next time, I will add a couple of almonds)
super dark Dutch choc. shake (it was okay, not as good as the vanilla IMO, icy cold water makes a big diff)
chicken noodle soup (eh...it was okay, better than the chicken/wild rice; I think the soups require more effort, you need to let them sit a good 15-20 min. to thicken and I've only been 'waving them....will try boiling water tomorrow)
Fruit/Nut bar (pretty good, not as yummy as I'd hoped but does the job)
strawberry creme shake (I'm not impressed; the strawberry flavor is WAYYYYYYYY too fake; but def. not horrible)

Overall rating for today: 7/10 (with 10 being fabulous!!!)

Day Two and going....

Well, I'd like to say "going strong" but how about we just say "going".  I am on day 2.  Yesterday I ate 4 and 1.  Was just too tired to put together my last meal replacement.  Overall as I'm just starting, I don't think this is going to be hard to do, but I did lose confidence later in the day.  Had an overwhelming feel of, 'wait a minute, I LIKE food, how it looks and tastes....this stuff is just fuel" and therein lies my biggest challenge.  IThe hardest thing for me to overcome will be re-training my brain to remember that food isn't specifically for fun, it's fuel first.  I think I'll be repeating that mantra a lot.
Drank all my water and then some (though not the 1/2 my body weight in ounces....that'd be more than I think my body could handle! but I did have about 10-12 glasses at least).
Oh the only major drawback?  I've had a raging headache for the last 14 hours or so.  Not convinced it's related to the MediFast food though.

Food feedback:
choc. chip pancakes (suprisingly good, less water next time I mix it)
vanilla shake (good, a bit gritty but pleasant taste; a bit more water next time)
Chicken and wild rice soup (a definite miss....will let it sit longer next time, like maybe 15 min? a bit less water next time)
Lemon-Meringue bar (okay, not great, but certainly tolerable)

Overall rating for yesterday: 7/10 (with 10 being fabulous!!!)
